Company Profile
The Johannesburg Roads Agency (Pty) Ltd commenced its business on the 1st January 2001 with the City of Johannesburg being the sole shareholder. The JRA’s core competencies are the planning, design, construction, operation, control, rehabilitation and maintenance of the roads and stormwater infrastructure in the City of Johannesburg. The main responsibilities include the construction and/or maintenance of bridges/culverts, traffic signals/traffic signal systems, footways, road signage and road markings.

The JRA’s vision is “the vehicle that makes the City work”. The JRA regards itself as the ultimate catalyst that makes other services and opportunities in the City realisable, whether it is water, electricity, waste, schooling, health, employment or recreation. The provision of transport infrastructure cannot be seen as an end in itself, but rather the means to a better quality of life for all.
Mission
The JRA’s mission is “to provide a sound transit infrastructure management system in support of enhanced mobility”.

The JRA in terms of the Service Delivery Agreement (SDA) with the City of Johannesburg is responsible for the construction, maintenance, and management of infrastructure networks associated with roads, stormwater, footways, railway sidings and traffic mobility management.

CSI InitiativesThe company’s Corporate Social Investment philosophy is broadly underpinned by the concept of sustainable development. Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Committee’s key responsibilities are the evaluations of all requests against Mayoral Strategic Outcomes; approval of social investment that are aimed at promoting the development/safety of women and children, disabled and elderly; empowerment of the unemployed; and support of people affected by the HIV/AIDS pandemic.
Silt Management Project
The 2010 Beautiful City Legacy program commenced in 2007 as part of the 2010 beautiful cities program and stormwater management strategic intervention. The project has potential for sustainable job creation and may have other positive spin offs. It also involves the planting of grass and improvement of general ambiance of the roads around main roads in the City of Johannesburg.
